Nongoma is more than a town — it’s the heart of Zulu royalty and tradition. As the official residence of the Zulu King, its development must reflect the dignity, ambition, and heritage of the Zulu nation.
The Nongoma We Want is a collaborative initiative led by Ihlalankosi Development to reimagine Nongoma as a rural hub of excellence in economic activity, infrastructure, and social well-being. The development plan focuses on three key areas: Usuthu, Mandlakazi, and Matheni, serving a population of over 300,000 residents.

The mission of The Nongoma We Want is to help drive economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability, through collaborative planning, stakeholder engagement, and strategic investment, ultimately creating a vibrant and prosperous community that honours the Zulu monarch and the people of Nongoma in its three-dimensional areas of Usuthu, Mandlakazi and Matheni.

Implementation Plan Overview:
The implementation plan will involve the following key steps:
1. Stakeholder Engagement
Engage first and foremost with His Majesty the Zulu King, Ubukhosi in all three areas of Usuthu, Mandlakazi and Matheni, with local residents, businesses, and government officials to gather input and feedback on the development plan. Establish a stakeholder database to ensure inclusive and participatory planning.
2. Data Collection & Analysis
Gather and analyze data on the town's economy, infrastructure, and social services to inform the development plan. Identify gaps and opportunities for development.
3. Strategic Planning
Develop a comprehensive master plan based on the data analysis and stakeholder input. Establish clear objectives, targets, and timelines.
4. Execution & Monitoring
Implement the strategic plan through a series of projects and initiatives, and establish a monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress and adjust as needed.
5. Feedback & Reporting
Provide regular progress reports to stakeholders. Gather feedback and input from stakeholders to inform future planning and decision-making.
